CENTAF releases airpower summary for Nov. 21

U.S. Central Command Air Forces officials have released the airpower summary for Nov. 21.

In Afghanistan Nov. 20, U.S. Navy F/A-18 Hornets and Royal Air Force GR-7 Harriers provided close-air support for International Security Assistance Force, or ISAF, troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Kandahar. The F/A-18s expended a guided bomb unit-12 and cannon rounds on enemy positions.

French M2000D Mirages and Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt IIs provided close-air support for ISAF troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Kandahar.

Air Force A-10s and an Air Force B-1B Lancer provided close-air support to ISAF troops in contact with enemy forces near Asadabad.

Air Force A-10s and Navy F/A-18s provided close-air support to ISAF troops in contact with enemy forces near Kabul.

Air Force A-10s and U.S. Navy F/A-18s provided close-air support for ISAF troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Jalalabad.

Navy F/A-18s provided close-air support to ISAF troops in contact with enemy forces near Orgun-e.

In total, 50 close-air-support missions were flown in support of ISAF and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols.

Additionally, 10 Air Force and RAF intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, or ISR, aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan. Navy fighter aircraft performed in non-traditional ISR roles with their electro-optical and infrared sensors.

In Iraq, U.S. Marine Corps AV-8B Harriers conducted a strike against anti-Iraqi forces in the vicinity of Ramadi. The AV-8Bs expended GBU-32s and GBU-38s on enemy targets.

Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcons provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near At Timm.

Air Force F-15E Strike Eagles provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Kirkuk.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 32 close-air-support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

Additionally, 15 Air Force, Navy and Royal Australian Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq. Air Force fighter aircraft performed in non-traditional ISR roles with their electro-optical and infrared sensors.

Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. Approximately 130 airlift sorties were flown; more than 420 tons of cargo was delivered, and more than 2,380 passengers were transported. This included about 23,000 pounds of troop re-supply air-dropped in eastern Afghanistan.

Coalition C-130 crews from Australia and Canada flew in support of OIF or OEF.

On Nov. 19, Air Force, RAF, French and Singaporean tankers flew 36 sorties and off-loaded almost 2.7 million pounds of fuel.
