CENTAF releases airpower summary for Nov. 11

U.S. Central Command Air Forces officials have released the airpower summary for Nov. 11.

In Afghanistan Nov. 10, an Air Force Predator conducted a strike against Taliban extremists near Kandahar. The Predator expended Hellfire missiles on enemy targets.

Air Force A-10 Thunderbolts and a B-1B Lancer and U.S. Navy F/A-18Cs and F/A-18Fs provided close-air support to International Security Assistance Force troops in contact with enemy forces near Kundi Ghar. The A-10s expended cannon rounds, and the B-1B expended guided bomb unit-31s and GBU-38s on enemy positions.

An Air Force B-1B provided close-air support to ISAF troops in contact with enemy forces near Shemika. The B-1B expended GBU-31s and GBU-38s on enemy positions.

Navy F/A-18Cs provided close-air support for ISAF troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Garmsir. The F/A-18Cs expended GBU-12s and cannon rounds on enemy positions.

Navy F/A-18Es and F/A-18Fs provided close-air support to ISAF troops in contact with enemy forces near Sangin.

Navy F/A-18Es provided close-air support to ISAF troops in contact with enemy forces near Janga Kalay.

In total, 48 close-air support missions were flown in support of ISAF and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols.

Additionally, seven Air Force intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, or ISR, aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan. Navy fighter aircraft performed in non-traditional ISR roles with their electro-optical and infrared sensors.

In Iraq, Marine F/A-18Ds conducted a strike against anti-Iraqi forces near Ramadi. The F/A-18Ds expended cannon rounds on enemy targets. 

Air Force F-15E Strike Eagles provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Baghdad and Al Kut.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 34 close-air support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

Additionally, 18 U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy and Royal Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq.

On Nov. 9, Air Force rescue and medical crews on HH-60 Pave Hawk helicopters flew a medical evacuation mission in support of OEF. One Afghan local national with injuries requiring urgent care was evacuated. 

Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew more than 140 airlift sorties, delivered more than 300 tons of cargo and transported more than 3,700 passengers. This included about 24,000 pounds of troop re-supply air-dropped in eastern Afghanistan.

Coalition C-130 crews from Australia, Canada and Japan flew in support of OIF or OEF.

On Nov. 9, U.S. Air Force, Royal Air Force, French Air Force and Singaporean Air Force tankers flew 38 sorties and off-loaded almost 2.4 million pounds of fuel.
