CENTAF releases airpower summary for Nov. 10

U.S. Central Command Air Forces officials have released the airpower summary for Nov. 10.

In Afghanistan Nov. 9, an Air Force B-1B Lancer conducted a strike against Taliban extremists near Khvajeh Khezar. The B-1B expended guided bomb unit-31s on enemy targets.

Royal Air Force GR-7 Harriers and U.S. Navy F/A-18 Hornets provided close-air support to International Security Assistance Force, or ISAF, troops in contact with enemy forces near Lmasi Domande.

Navy F/A-18s provided close-air support to ISAF troops in contact with enemy forces near Gereshk.

In total, 46 close-air-support missions were flown in support of ISAF and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols.

Additionally, nine Air Force and RAF intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, or ISR, aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan. United States Navy fighter aircraft performed in non-traditional ISR roles with their electro-optical and infrared sensors.

In Iraq, U.S. Marine Corps F/A-18s and Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcons conducted a strike against anti-Iraqi forces near Ramadi. The F/A-18s expended a Maverick missile and GBU-12s and the F-16s expended a GBU-38 on enemy targets.

Air Force F-16s provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Mosul.

Air Force F-15E Strike Eagles provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Baghdad.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 34 close air support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

Additionally, 16 Air Force, Navy and RAF ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq.

Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. More than 140 airlift sorties were flown; more than 430 tons of cargo was delivered, and more than 3,620 passengers were transported. This included about 36,000 pounds of troop re-supply air-dropped in eastern Afghanistan.

Coalition C-130 crews from Australia and Canada flew in support of OIF or OEF.

On Nov. 8, Air Force, Royal Air Force, French and Singaporean tankers flew 38 sorties and off-loaded almost 2.4 million pounds of fuel.
