CENTAF releases airpower summary for Nov. 9

U.S. Central Command Air Forces officials have released the airpower summary for Nov. 9.

In Afghanistan Nov. 8, an Air Force RQ-1 Predator flew an air strike against Taliban extremists near Oruzgan. The Predator fired a Hellfire missile on an enemy target.

Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt IIs provided close-air support to International Security Assistance Force, or ISAF, troops in contact with enemy forces near Payendi. The A-10s dropped guided bomb unit-12s and general-purpose 500-pound bombs, and fired cannon rounds on enemy positions.

An Air Force B-1B Lancer provided close-air support to ISAF troops in contact with enemy forces near De Michene Ghar. The B-1B dropped GBU-31s on enemy positions.

Royal Air Force GR-7 Harriers provided close-air support for ISAF troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Garmsir.

Navy F/A-18 Hornets provided close-air support to ISAF troops in contact with enemy forces near Mangretay Naray.

F/A-18s provided close-air support to ISAF troops in contact with enemy forces near Hajji Musa.

In total, 52 close-air-support missions were flown in support of ISAF and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols.

Additionally, nine Air Force and RAF intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, or ISR, aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan. Navy fighter aircraft performed in non-traditional ISR roles with their electro-optical and infrared sensors.

In Iraq, Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcons conducted strikes against anti-Iraqi forces near Baqubah and Baghdad. The F-16s dropped GBU-12s and GBU-38s on enemy targets.

Air Force F-16s provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Baghdad and Hawijah. The F-16s dropped GBU-12s on enemy positions.

Air Force F-15E Strike Eagles provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Baghdad.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 35 close-air support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. They included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

Additionally, 16 Air Force, Navy, RAF and Royal Australian Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq.

Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew more than 125 airlift sorties; delivered 430 tons of cargo and transported 4,160 passengers. This included 24,700 pounds of troop re-supply air-dropped in eastern Afghanistan.

Coalition C-130 crews from Australia, Canada, Japan and South Korea flew in support of OIF or OEF.

On Nov. 7, Air Force, RAF, French Air Force and Singaporean tankers flew 38 sorties and off-loaded more than 2.5 million pounds of fuel.

During October, 10 Space Support Requests were supported for OIF, delivering 110 specific effects.

For OEF, 10 SSRs were serviced, delivering 136 specific effects.
