CENTAF releases airpower summary for Nov. 5 Published Nov. 5, 2006 SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFPN) -- U.S. Central Command Air Forces officials have released the airpower summary for Nov. 5. In Afghanistan Nov. 4, French Air Force M2000s provided close-air support for International Security Assistance Force troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Arandu. In total, 33 close-air support missions were flown in support of ISAF and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols. Additionally, 10 U.S. Air Force and Royal Air Force intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, or ISR, aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan.In Iraq, an Air Force Predator conducted a strike against anti-Iraqi forces placing an IED near Balad. The Predator expended a Hellfire missile on enemy targets. In total, coalition aircraft flew 30 close-air support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions included support to Coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities. Additionally, 14 Air Force and Navy ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq. Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew more than 150 airlift sorties, delivered more than 500 tons of cargo and transported more than 3,080 passengers. This included more than 41,600 pounds of troop re-supply air-dropped in eastern Afghanistan. Coalition C-130 crews from Australia, Canada, Japan and South Korea flew in support of OIF or OEF. On Nov. 3, U.S. Air Force, Royal Air Force and French Air Force tankers flew 31 sorties and off-loaded almost 2 million pounds of fuel.
