CENTAF releases airpower summary for Nov. 4 Published Nov. 4, 2006 SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFPN) -- U.S. Central Command Air Forces officials have released the airpower summary for Nov. 4. In Afghanistan Nov. 3, Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt IIs and B-1B Lancers provided close-air support for International Security Assistance Force troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Gangikhel. The B-1Bs expended guided bomb unit-31s and GBU-38s on enemy positions. Air Force A-10s provided close-air support to ISAF troops in contact with enemy forces near Dowlat Shah. Royal Air Force GR-7s provided close-air support to ISAF troops in contact with enemy forces near Pasab. Royal Air Force GR-7s and a U.S. Air Force B-1B provided close-air support for ISAF troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Garmsir. In total, 37 close-air support missions were flown in support of ISAF and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols. Additionally, nine U.S. Air Force and Royal Air Force intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, or ISR, aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan.In Iraq, an Air Force Predator conducted a strike against anti-Iraqi forces near Balad. The Predator expended a Hellfire missile on an enemy target. Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcons provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Baqubah, Al Musayyib and Bayji. Air Force F-15E Strike Eagles provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Basrah and Baghdad. In total, coalition aircraft flew 34 close-air support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions included support to Coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities. Additionally, 16 U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy and Royal Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq. On Nov. 2, U.S. Air Force rescue and medical crews on HH-60 Pave Hawk helicopters flew a medical evacuation mission in support of OEF. One Afghan National Army soldier with injuries requiring urgent care was evacuated. Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew almost 140 airlift sorties, delivered more than 510 tons of cargo and transported more than 3,000 passengers. This included about 24,000 pounds of troop re-supply air-dropped in eastern Afghanistan. Coalition C-130 crews from Australia, Canada, Japan and South Korea flew in support of OIF or OEF. On Nov. 2, U.S. Air Force, Royal Air Force and Singaporean Air Force tankers flew 30 sorties and off-loaded almost 2 million pounds of fuel.
