CENTAF releases airpower summary for Oct. 28 Published Oct. 28, 2006 SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFPN) -- U.S. Central Command Air Forces officials have released the airpower summary for Oct. 28. In Afghanistan Oct. 27, a U.S. Air Force B-1B provided close-air support for International Security Assistance Force, or ISAF, troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Gangikhel. The B-1B dropped Guided Bomb Unit-31s on enemy positions. Royal Air Force GR-7 Harriers provided close-air support to ISAF troops in contact with enemy forces near Hajji Mohammad 'Omar Khan. The GR-7s dropped an Enhanced Paveway II munition on an enemy position. Air Force A-10s provided close-air support to ISAF troops in contact with enemy forces near Alibeg. Royal Air Force GR-7s provided close-air support for ISAF troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Garmsir. In total, 33 close-air support missions were flown in support of ISAF and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols. Additionally, 10 Air Force, Navy and Royal Air Force Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan. In Iraq, an Air Force Predator and Marine Corps F/A-18Ds and AV-8Bs flew a strike against anti-Iraqi forces near Ramadi. The Predator fired a Hellfire missile on an enemy target. Air Force F-15E Strike Eagles provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Samarra. Royal Air Force GR-4 Tornados provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Balad. In total, coalition aircraft flew 38 close-air support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. They included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities. Additionally, 16 Air Force, Navy and Royal Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq. Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew 160 airlift sorties; delivered 500 tons of cargo and transported 3,100 passengers. This included about 7,000 pounds of troop re-supply air-dropped in eastern Afghanistan. Coalition C-130 crews from Australia, Canada and South Korea flew in support of OIF or OEF. On Oct. 26, Air Force, RAF, French Air Force and Singaporean Air Force tankers flew 30 sorties and off-loaded almost 2 million pounds of fuel.
