CENTAF releases airpower summary for Oct. 27

U.S. Central Command Air Forces officials have released the airpower summary for Oct. 27.

In Afghanistan Oct. 26, an Air Force B1-B Lancer and A-10 Tunderbolt IIs provided close-air support for International Security Assistance Force, or ISAF, troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Band-Kajaki. The A-10s expended guided bomb unit-31s and GBU-38s on enemy positions.

French M2000 Mirages and an Air Force B1-B provided close-air support to ISAF troops in contact with enemy forces near Gangikhel. The B1-B expended GBU-31s on enemy positions.

Air Force A-10s provided close-air support for ISAF troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Payandeh.

In total, 28 close-air-support missions were flown in support of ISAF and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols.

Additionally, ten Air Force , Navy and Royal Air Force intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, or ISR, aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan .

In Iraq , U.S. Marine Corps AV-8 Harriers conducted a strike against anti-Iraqi forces near Ramadi. The AV-8s expended a Maverick missile on enemy positions.

Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcons provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Samarra , Bayji, Baqubeh, and Baghdad . 

RAF GR-4 Tornados provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Basrah.

Air Force F-15E Strike Eagles provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Al Muqdadiyah.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 36 close air support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

Additionally, 18 Air Force, Navy, Army and RAF ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq .

On Oct.25, Air Force rescue and medical crews on HH-60 Pave Hawk helicopters flew medical evacuation missions in support of OEF. Three Afghan National soldiers with injuries requiring urgent care were evacuated as a result of these missions.

Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan , Iraq and the Horn of Africa. Approximately 150 airlift sorties were flown; about 432 tons of cargo was delivered, and more than 3,500 passengers were transported. This included about 22,800 pounds of troop re-supply air-dropped in eastern Afghanistan .

Coalition C-130 crews from Australia , Canada , Japan and Korea flew in support of OIF or OEF.

On Oct.25, Air Force, RAF, French and Singaporean tankers flew 32 sorties and off-loaded more than 1.9 million pounds of fuel.
