CENTAF releases airpower summary for Oct. 24 Published Oct. 24, 2006 SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFPN) -- U.S. Central Command Air Forces officials have released the airpower summary for Oct. 23. In Afghanistan Oct 23, Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt IIs and an Air Force B-1 Lancer provided close-air support for International Security Assistance Force, or ISAF, troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Bermel Rod. The B-1 expended guided bomb unit-31s and GBU-38s on enemy positions. Royal Air Force Harrier GR-7s provided close-air support to ISAF troops in contact with enemy forces near Eybak. An Air Force B-1 provided close-air support to ISAF troops in contact with enemy forces near Kandahar. The B-1 expended GBU-38s and one GBU-31 on enemy positions. In total, 31 close-air-support missions were flown in support of ISAF and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols. Additionally, 11 Air Force, Navy and RAF intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, or ISR, aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan.In Iraq, an Air Force Predator conducted a strike against anti-Iraqi forces near Ramadi. The Predator expended a Hellfire missile on the enemy target. Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcons and F-15E Strike Eagles provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Baghdad. Air Force F-15Es provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Basrah. Air Force F-16s provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Al Yusufiyah and Fayyad. In total, coalition aircraft flew 28 close-air-support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities. Additionally, 15 Air Force, Navy and Army ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq. On Oct. 22, Air Force rescue and medical crews on HH-60 Pave Hawk helicopters flew two medical evacuation missions in support of OEF. One Afghan National Army soldier and one local national child with injuries requiring urgent care were evacuated as a result of these missions. Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. Nearly 180 airlift sorties were flown; more than 375 tons of cargo was delivered, and more than 3,030 passengers were transported. Coalition C-130 crews from Australia, Canada, Japan and South Korea flew in support of OIF or OEF. On Oct. 22, Air Force, Royal Air Force, French and Singaporean tankers flew 33 sorties and off-loaded more than 2.1 million pounds of fuel.
