The painting of the Air Force's 17th chief of staff was unveiled at the Hall of Heroes in the Pentagon Oct. 16.

The portrait of retired Gen. John P. Jumper was unveiled by Secretary of the Air Force Michael W. Wynne and Air Force Chief of Staff T. Michael Moseley.

"I appreciate everyone coming out for my hanging," General Jumper jokingly told the crowd.

As the 17th chief of staff, General Jumper led the service through the aftermath of 9/11, and through successes such as the overhaul of the Air Force fitness program. He retired in November 2005.

Other guests in attendance included former Secretary of the Air Force Dr. James G. Roche; Gen. Paul V. Hester, commander of Pacific Air Forces; and the current and former Chief Master Sgt. of the Air Force -- Rodney J. McKinley and Gerald R. Murray.
