No. 16 Air Force wraps up weekend at SoCal Tournament Published Oct. 15, 2006 LOS ANGELES -- Wrapping up competition at the SoCal Tournament, the 16th-ranked Air Force water polo team dropped its last two contests, falling to No. 8 UC Santa Barbara, 10-6, and No. 14 Long Beach State 8-7. With the losses, the Falcons fall to 8-11 on the season. The Falcons began the day with a contest versus eighth-ranked UC Santa Barbara. Although the score was tied 3-3 at the end of the first half, the Gauchos outscored Air Force 3-1 in the third period before pulling away for the 10-6 victory. Sophomore Tyler Hewko (Laguna Hills, Calif.) and senior Kyle Schafer (Irvine, Calif.) each notched two goals to lead Air Force in the contest, while Joey Brewer (So., Clovis, Calif.) and Clark Condict (Jr., Irvine, Calif.) added a goal each. Air Force faced off against 14th-ranked Long Beach State in the 11th-place contest. With the score tied at 2-2 after one period, the Falcons grabbed a 4-3 advantage by the end of the first half. However, the 49ers outscored Air Force 4-1 in the third period, and were able to hold on to their lead in the final period, grabbing the close 8-7 win. Senior Danny Kimmich (La Jolla, Calif.) led the Falcons with three goals against Long Beach State, Brewer added two and Justin Berry (Jr., Windermere, Fla.) and Alex Churnside (Fr., Orange, Calif.) added a goal each. The Falcons have next weekend off before returning to action Oct. 28-29 at the Aggie Shootout, hosted by UC Davis.
