CENTAF airpower summary for Oct. 15 Published Oct. 15, 2006 SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFPN) -- In Afghanistan Oct. 14, Navy F/A-18Cs provided close-air support for International Security Assistance Force, or ISAF, troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Band-e Kajaki. The F/A-18Cs dropped a Guided Bomb Unit-38 and GBU-12s on enemy positions. A B-1B Lancer provided close-air support to ISAF troops in contact with enemy forces near Shenadah. The B-1 dropped GBU-31s on enemy positions. Navy F/A-18Cs provided close-air support to ISAF troops in contact with enemy forces near Kharnay. The F/A-18Cs dropped a GBU-12 on an enemy position. A-10 Thunderbolt IIs provided close-air support for ISAF troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Wasala Ghundi, Dehjawa Barakzi, Lwara Dasta and Shinkundi. Navy F/A-18Cs and F/A-18Fs and Royal Air Force Harrier GR-7s provided close-air support to ISAF troops in contact with enemy forces near Zehdanen. RAF GR-7s provided close-air support to ISAF troops in contact with enemy forces near Now Zad and Sangin. Navy F/A-18Cs provided close-air support to ISAF troops in contact with enemy forces near Mangretay. In total, coalition aircraft flew 42 close-air support missions supporting ISAF and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols. Additionally, nine Air Force and Royal Air Force Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan. In Iraq, F-16 Fighting Falcons provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Qarat at Tut, Samarra and Bayji. Air Force F-15E Strike Eagles provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Al Iskandariyah and Baghdad. Marine Corps F/A-18Cs provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near At Timm and Al Yusufiyah. In total, coalition aircraft flew 47 close-air support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities. Additionally, 14 Air Force and Navy ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq. Air Force fighter aircraft performed in non-traditional ISR roles with their electro-optical and infrared sensors. Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. More than 140 airlift sorties were flown; more than 520 tons of cargo was delivered, and more than 3,550 passengers were transported. This included about 11,200 pounds of troop re-supply air-dropped in eastern Afghanistan. Coalition C-130 crews from Australia and Canada flew in support of OIF or OEF. On Oct. 13, Air Force, RAF, French Air Force and Singaporean Air Force tankers flew 38 sorties and off-loaded more than 2.4 million pounds of fuel.
