Jeremy Larlee Air Force Print News SAN ANTONIO -- To combat underage drinking, five Air Force bases have been selected to receive a total of more than $1 million from the Department of Justice. Davis-Monthan Air Force Base and Luke AFB in Arizona, Malmstrom AFB, Mont., Hickam AFB, Hawaii, and Beale AFB, Calif., were selected to receive the grants that will be paid out over the next three years.The bases worked together with the state governments to apply for the federal funds. The money can be used to combat underage drinking in numerous ways, such as public awareness campaigns, crackdowns on stores that sell liquor illegally and clubs that's serve the underaged. "This is a great example of a partnership between Davis-Monthan and the local community," said Capt. Travis Tougaw, base spokesperson. "We really appreciate them getting involved to help us continue our success in underage drinking." Davis-Monthan AFB has been making progress in combating underage drinking, the number of incidents dropped from 53 in 2004 to 18 in 2005. There have been seven cases reported so far this year.
