Academy cadet named MWC runner of the week Published Oct. 11, 2006 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AFPN) -- Air Force Academy sophomore Scott Balcao was named the Mountain West Conference men's cross country athlete of the week, league officials announced Oct. 10. Balcao, from Stockton, Calif., was the first Falcon to cross the finish line at the Fort Hays State Tiger Invitational Oct. 7, leading Air Force to its third straight team title at that meet. Clocking a time of 26:18, Balcao finished ninth in the 122-member race. He is the second Air Force athlete to earn the conference's weekly honor this season, as classmate Matt Williams won the award following the season-opening Wyoming Invitational. The Falcons head to Terre Haute, Ind., Oct. 14 for the Pre-NCAA Meet. Balcao shared the weekly honor with Anne Heiner of Brigham Young University, who won the women's award.
