CENTAF releases airpower summary for Oct. 10 Published Oct. 10, 2006 SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFPN) -- U.S. Central Command Air Forces officials have released the airpower summary for Oct. 10.In Afghanistan Oct. 9, an Air Force B-1B Lancer provided close-air support for International Security Assistance Force, or ISAF, troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Garmsir. The B-1B expended guided bomb unit-31s on enemy positions. Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt IIs and U.S. Navy F/A-18 Hornets provided close-air support for ISAF troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Myan Koh. The F/A-18s expended cannon rounds and GBU-12s on enemy positions. Air Force A-10s and a B1-B and Navy F/A-18s provided close air support for ISAF troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Now Zad. In total, 45 close-air-support missions were flown in support of ISAF and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols. Additionally, eleven Air Force, Navy and Royal Air Force intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, or ISR, aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan. In Iraq , U.S. Marine AV-8 Harriers conducted a strike against anti-Iraqi forces near Ramadi. The AV-8s expended cannon rounds on enemy positions. RAF GR-4 Tornados provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Al Amarah. Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcons and RAF GR-4s provided close air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Baghdad. Air Force F-16s and Marine F/A-18s provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Al Iskandariyah. Air Force F-16s provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Samarra. A Marine F/A-18 provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Ad Diwaniyah. Air Force F-16s provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Samarra and Baghdad. Air Force F-15E Strike Eagles provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Baghdad and Basrah. In total, coalition aircraft flew 44 close-air-support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities. Additionally, 20 Air Force, Navy, Army and RAF ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq.Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan , Iraq and the Horn of Africa. Approximately 165 airlift sorties were flown; almost 500 tons of cargo was delivered, and more than 3,600 passengers were transported. This included about 16,300 pounds of troop re-supply air-dropped in eastern Afghanistan. Coalition C-130 crews from Australia , Canada and Korea flew in support of OIF or OEF. On Oct. 8, Air Force, RAF, French and Singaporean tankers flew 41 sorties and off-loaded more than 2.6 million pounds of fuel.
