Jeremy Larlee Air Force Print News SAN ANTONIO (AFPN) -- Officials at MacDill Air Force Base, Fla., implemented enhanced security procedures at their gates after two teens in a stolen vehicle stormed through the main gate Sept. 20. MacDill security forces helped in apprehending the suspects within 10 minutes after Tampa police began pursuing the teenagers at 3 a.m. who tried to flee and drive through the Dale Mabry gate at MacDill. No injuries to military or local police took place, but a Tampa police cruiser was damaged in the chase when the teens crashed into it. The base security police train for such incidents, said 1st Lt. Larry van der Oord, a 6th Air Mobility Wing spokesperson. Training and teamwork with local police were important factors to the safe conclusion of the incident, he said "The security forces Airmen we have, not only at MacDill but all over the Air Force, are trained for these types of situations," he said. "Any time there is a security incident it is a serious situation. Luckily we work in close coordination with our neighbors in the Tampa Police Department." MacDill officials are investigating the incident.
