The 45th Space Wing here supported NASA's launch of Space Shuttle Atlantis Sept. 9.

The launch occurred at 11:14 a.m. EDT from Space Launch Complex 39B at Kennedy Space Center.

The 45th SW's Eastern Range assets such as radar, optical and meteorological instrumentation helped energize a picture-perfect and safe launch.

"What a great start to a great mission. We're pleased to play a part in helping build the International Space Station," said Brig. Gen. Susan J. Helms, 45th SW commander. "We're looking forward to supporting a successful landing in about two weeks."

The six astronauts on this mission will deliver the second, left-side truss segment, a pair of solar arrays and batteries to the International Space Station.
