Air Force takes 4th place at Falcon Invitational

Finishing at an even-par 864, the Air Force golf team placed fourth at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational held Sept. 9 and 10 at the 7,306-yard, par-72 Eisenhower Blue Course here. 

Capturing the team title was Xavier University, which turned in a tournament-record 845 (-19), while the Musketeers' Jason Kokrak also notched a tournament record to claim medalist honors, finishing at 12-under-par (204) for the weekend.

Leading the way for the Falcons was freshman Tom Whitney from La Quinta, Calif., who fired a round of 66 Sept. 10 to finish tied for fourth place at 5-under-par (211), while senior Tyler Goulding ofTracy, Calif., sat three strokes behind in a tie for 10th place after turning in a 69 in the final round.

Also competing for the Falcons' varsity group were junior Matt Tanis of Asbury, N.J., who finished tied for 49th place at 222 and senior Chad Follett from El Paso, Texas, and Andrew Gibson a sophomore from San Ramon, Calif., both tied for 61st place at 224.

Meanwhile, the Air Force Blue Team finished 19th in the team standings, led by junior Bob Whitney of La Quinta, Calif. Whitney ended in a tie for 37th place, finishing the tournament at 4-over-par (220).

Rounding out the competitors for the Air Force Blue Team were sophomore Shaun O'Bryant of Colorado Springs, Colo., junior Jared Freeman from Brazil, Ind., and freshmen Josh McFarland of Layton, Utah, and St. Louis native Michael Pak.

The Falcons return to action Sept. 22 and 23 when they compete in the William H. Tucker Invitational, hosted by Mountain West Conference opponent New Mexico.
