Aircraft evacuated from Charleston AFB

  • Published
Airmen here are in the process of evacuating all operational C-17 Globemaster III aircraft on station due to impending severe weather.

Aircraft will be flown to Whiteman Air Force Base, Mo., and Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio, Aug. 30.

The aircraft are being evacuated to ensure the airlift mission around the world will continue during the duration of Tropical Storm Ernesto.

All inbound military flights have been diverted from the air base at this time. The base is currently in Hurricane Condition 3 (winds greater than 50 knots possible within 48 hours) and is monitoring weather reports for more information.

There has not been a mandatory evacuation order for people at this time; however, some base facilities will be closed Aug. 31.
