CENTAF releases airpower summaries Published Aug. 28, 2006 SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFPN) -- U.S. Central Command Air Forces officials have released the airpower summaries for Aug. 25 to 27.Aug. 27In Afghanistan Aug. 26, Air Force A-10 Thunderbolts and a B-1 Lancer provided close-air support for coalition troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Kandahar. The B-1 expended a Guided Bomb Unit-38 allowing coalition forces to push through an ambush and end the engagement. A B-1 and Royal Air Force Harrier GR-7s provided close-air support for coalition troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Musah Qal'eh. The B-1 expended a GBU-31 on a mortar position, ending the engagement. A-10s also provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with enemy forces near Asadabad. A B-1 provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with enemy forces near Khowst. Additionally, seven Air Force intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, or ISR, aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan. In total, coalition aircraft flew 27 close-air support missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. These missions included support to coalition and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols. In Iraq, Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcons provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Balad. An F-16 expended a GBU-38 on a mortar position, ending the engagement. F-16s also provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Ad Diwaniyah, Baghdad, Baquba, Karbala and Tall Afar. Air Force F-15E Strike Eagles also provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Ad Diwaniyah. Additionally, 13 Air Force, Navy and Royal Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq. In total, coalition aircraft flew 35 close-air support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities. On Aug. 26, Air Force rescue and medical crews on HH-60 Pave Hawk helicopters flew two medical evacuation missions in support of OEF. Two enemy extremists with injuries sustained during a firefight required urgent care and were evacuated as a result of these missions. Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew 150 airlift sorties, delivered 380 tons of cargo and transported 2,220 passengers. Coalition C-130 crews from Australia , Canada and Japan flew in support of either OIF or OEF. On Aug. 26, U.S., French and Royal Air Force tankers flew 36 sorties and off-loaded almost 2.3 million pounds of fuel. The A-10s conducted passes, expending cannon rounds against enemy troop positions and ending the engagement. A-10s and a B-1 provided close-air support for coalition troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Oruzgan. The B-1 expended GBU-38s and the A-10s conducted passes, expending cannon rounds on enemy locations, ending the engagement. B-1s provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with enemy forces near Musah Qal'eh. The B-1s expended GBU-31s and GBU-38s on the enemy positions, ending the engagement. F-15Es provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Musah Qal'eh. The F-15Es conducted passes, expending cannon rounds on enemy positions, ending the engagement. A-10s and RAF GR-7s also provided close-air support near Musah Qal'eh. RAF GR-7s also provided close-air support to coalition forces near Now Zad. Additionally, eight Air Force and Royal Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan. In total, coalition aircraft flew 30 close-air-support missions in support of OEF. These missions included support to coalition and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols. In Iraq, F-16s provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Ad Diwaniyah, Ar Ramadi and Baghdad. F-15Es also provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Ad Diwaniyah. Additionally, 18 Air Force, Navy, RAF and Royal Australian Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq. In total, coalition aircraft flew 35 close-air-support missions for OIF. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities. C-130s and C-17s provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew 160 airlift sorties, delivered 420 tons of cargo and transported 3,700 passengers. This included more than 12,000 pounds of troop resupply airdropped in eastern Afghanistan. Coalition C-130 crews from Canada and Japan flew in support of either OIF or OEF. On Aug. 25, U.S., French and Royal Air Force tankers flew 37 sorties and off-loaded almost 2.2 million pounds of fuel. Aug. 25In Afghanistan Aug. 24, a B-1 and an MQ-1 Predator unmanned aerial vehicle conducted a precision strike in the central Khod Valley of Uruzgan Province where the Taliban conducted attacks against the Afghan people and Afghan and coalition forces. The B-1 expended GBU-38s, destroying the Taliban location. A B-1 provided close-air support for coalition troops in contact with Taliban extremists engaging Coalition forces from a cave complex near Khowst. The aircraft expended GBU-38s, destroying the cave complex and ending the engagement. A B-1 and RAF GR-7s provided close-air support for coalition troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Musah Qal'eh. The GR-7s expended rockets on the extremists' locations, ending the engagement. A-10s also provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with enemy forces in the vicinity of Jalalabad. RAF GR-7s also provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with enemy forces near Gereshk. Additionally, nine Air Force and RAF ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan. In total, coalition aircraft flew 32 close-air-support missions in support of OEF. These missions included support to coalition and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols. In Iraq, F-16s provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Baghdad. Additionally, 13 Air Force, Navy and RAF ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq. In total, coalition aircraft flew 40 close-air-support missions for OIF. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities. C-130s and C-17s provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew 160 airlift sorties, delivered 470 tons of cargo and transported 2,940 passengers. This included more than 18,000 pounds of troop resupply airdropped in eastern Afghanistan.
