Air Force officials have announced the first-ever Air Force Week.  It will begin Aug. 6 in St. Louis, culminating in an open house and air show at nearby Scott Air Force Base, Ill., Aug. 12 to 13, featuring the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds.

The St. Louis metro region was selected by Air Force officials to host the inaugural Air Force Week, hoping the weeklong event will give the citizens around the region the opportunity to see the men and women defending America in the war on terror.

"I am asking all of you to come out and enjoy the Air Force Week activities," said Air Force Chief of Staff General T. Michael Moseley. "They are designed to be an opportunity for all of us to demonstrate the remarkable pride and professionalism of the greatest air and space force the world has ever known."

Airmen will kick off the week with the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium Aug. 6. St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay will host a proclamation-signing ceremony in his office to officially declare Aug. 7 to 13 as Air Force Week in the city. Speeches, hospital visits and concerts around the community will continue throughout the week, including an autograph signing session Aug. 10 by the Air Force Thunderbirds at the St. Louis Science Center.
