CENTAF releases airpower summary Published July 26, 2006 SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFPN) -- U.S. Central Command Air Forces officials released the airpower summary for July 26.In Afghanistan July 25, an Air Force B-1 Lancer provided close-air support for coalition troops taking small arms fire from Taliban extremists near Musah Qal'eh. The B-1 expended guided bomb unit-31s and 38s on multiple enemy positions and an ambush site, ending the engagements. Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt IIs provided close-air support for coalition troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Kabul and Tarin Kowt. An Air Force B-1 and A-10s also provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with enemy forces near Lashkar Gar. Additionally, nine Air Force, Royal Air Force and French Air Force intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, or ISR, aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan. In total, coalition aircraft flew 26 close-air support missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. These missions included support to coalition and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols. In Iraq, Air Force F-15E Strike Eagles provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Al Mahmudiyah and Baghdad. Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcons also provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Ad Diwaniyah. Additionally, 14 Air Force, Navy and Royal Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq. In total, coalition aircraft flew 44 close-air support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities. Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew approximately 160 airlift sorties, delivered almost 430 tons of cargo and transported 2,630 passengers. This included nearly 12,700 pounds of troop re-supply airdropped in eastern Afghanistan. In addition, a theater C-17 flew one mission, transporting approximately 78,000 pounds of equipment and supplies July 25 in support of U.S. Central Command's efforts in the assisted departure of American citizens from Lebanon. Coalition C-130 crews from Australia, Canada, Japan and Korea flew in support of either OIF or OEF. On July 24, Air Force, Royal Air Force and French Air Force tankers flew 34 sorties and off-loaded almost 2.2 million pounds of fuel.
