CENTAF releases airpower summary Published July 20, 2006 SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFPN) -- U.S. Central Command Air Forces officials have released the airpower summary for July 20.In Afghanistan July 19, Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt IIs and a B-1 Lancer provided close-air support for coalition troops in contact with anti-coalition forces near Qalat. The B-1 expended guided-bomb-unit 31s and GBU-38s against enemy troop positions, ending the engagement.In a separate engagement near Qalat, Air Force F-15E Strike Eagles and a B-1 provided close-air support for coalition troops in contact with anti-coalition forces. The B-1 expended GBU-12s on an enemy mortar position, ending the engagement. A-10s and F-15Es provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with enemy forces near Now Zad. The A-10s conducted a strafing pass against an enemy mortar position, expending cannon rounds and ending the engagement.In a separate engagement near Now Zad, A-10s, a B-1 and French Air Force M-2000s provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with enemy forces. A B-1 provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with enemy forces near Jalalabad. The aircraft expended GBU-38s against enemy troop positions, ending the engagement. A-10s also provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with enemy forces near Gereshk, Kandahar and Lashkar Gah, and B-1s provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with enemy forces near Lashkar Gah. Additionally, seven U.S. and French Air Force intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, or ISR, aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan.In total, coalition aircraft flew 26 close-air-support missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. These missions included support to coalition and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols. In Iraq, Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcons conducted a strike against an insurgent facility in the vicinity of Balad. The aircraft expended GBU-12s on the facility. F-16s also provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Baghdad, Balad, Fallujah and Ramadi. Additionally, 13 Air Force, Navy, Royal Air Force and Royal Australian Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq. In total, coalition aircraft flew 41 close-air support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities. On July 18, Air Force rescue and medical crews on HH-60 Pave Hawk helicopters flew two medical evacuation missions in support of OEF. One U.S. and one Afghan military member with injuries requiring urgent care were evacuated as a result of these missions. Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew 150 airlift sorties, delivered 370 tons of cargo and transported 3,630 passengers. Coalition C-130 crews from Australia, Canada, Japan and Korea flew in support of either OIF or OEF. On July 18, U.S. and Royal Air Force tankers flew 38 sorties and off-loaded almost 2.5 million pounds of fuel.
