CENTAF releases airpower summary Published July 14, 2006 SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFPN) -- U.S. Central Command Air Forces officials have released the airpower summary for July 14.In Afghanistan July 13, Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt IIs and a B-1B Lancer provided close-air support for coalition forces taking small arms and rocket-propelled grenade fire from Taliban extremists near Musah Qal'eh. The B-1B expended a guided bomb unit-31 on the extremists' location, ending the engagement. In another engagement in Musah Qal'eh, Air Force A-10s and a B-1B provided close-air support for coalition forces taking small arms and rocket-propelled grenade fire from Taliban extremists. The B-1B expended GBU-31s and GBU-38s on the extremists' locations, ending the engagement. Royal Air Force GR-7s also provided close-air support to coalition forces in the area. Air Force A-10s and a B-1B provided close-air support for coalition forces taking small arms fire from Taliban extremists near Tarin Kowt. The B-1B expended GBU-31s and GBU-38s on an extremist's bunker, mortar position and on enemy forces in a tree line, ending the engagement. In a separate engagement in Tarin Kowt, Air Force A-10s provided close-air support for coalition forces taking small arms fire from Taliban extremists. The A-10s expended general-purpose 500-pound bombs, a GBU-12 and conducted strafing passes expending cannon rounds on the extremist's location and ending the engagement. Air Force A-10s provided close-air support for coalition forces taking small arms fire from Taliban extremists in the vicinity of Gereshk. The A-10s expended a GBU-12 and conducted strafing passes, expending cannon rounds on an extremist's compound. An Air Force B-1B and Royal Air Force GR-7s also provided close-air support to coalition forces in the area. Additionally, seven Air Force, French Air Force and Royal Air Force intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, or ISR, aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan. In total, coalition aircraft flew 29 close-air support missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. These missions included support to coalition and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols. In Iraq, Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcons provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces in the vicinity of Baquba. Additionally, 11 Air Force, Navy and Royal Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq. In total, coalition aircraft flew 44 close-air support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities. Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew approximately 160 airlift sorties, delivered almost 530 tons of cargo and transported 2,870 passengers. This included more than 27,840 pounds of troop re-supply airdropped in central Afghanistan. Coalition C-130 crews from Canada flew in support of either OIF or OEF. On July 12, Air Force, French Air Force and Royal Air Force tankers flew 42 sorties and off-loaded almost 2.6 million pounds of fuel.
