CENTAF releases airpower summary Published July 13, 2006 SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFPN) -- U.S. Central Command Air Forces officials have released the airpower summary for July 13. In Afghanistan July 12, Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt IIs and a Predator unmanned aerial vehicle provided close-air support for coalition forces under small arms and rocket-propelled grenade fire from Taliban extremists near Musah Qal'eh. The A-10s conducted strafing passes, expending cannon rounds and guided bomb unit-12s on the extremists' locations, ending the engagement. In a separate engagement near Musah Qal'eh, Air Force A-10s and a B-1B Lancer, Royal Air Force GR-7s and Royal Netherlands Air Force F-16s provided close-air support to coalition troops under small arms and rocket-propelled grenade fire from enemy forces. The GR-7s conducted strafing passes, expending rockets and ending the engagement. Air Force A-10s also provided close-air support for coalition forces facing enemy forces near Asadabad and Gereshk. Additionally, seven Air Force, French Air Force and Royal Air Force intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, or ISR, aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan. In total, coalition aircraft flew 25 close-air support missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. These missions included support to coalition and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols. In Iraq, Air Force F-15E Strike Eagles, F-16 Fighting Falcons and Royal Air Force GR-4s provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Baghdad. Air Force F-15Es also provided close-air support to coalition troops engaged with anti-Iraqi forces near Baquba. Additionally, 17 Air Force, Navy, Royal Air Force and Royal Australian Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq. Air Force fighter aircraft performed in non-traditional ISR roles with their electro-optical and infrared sensors. In total, coalition aircraft flew 46 close-air support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities. Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew approximately 140 airlift sorties, delivered more than 500 tons of cargo and transported 2,110 passengers. This included more than 23,160 pounds of troop re-supply airdropped in central Afghanistan. Coalition C-130 crews from Canada and Japan flew in support of either OIF or OEF. On July 11, Air Force, French Air Force and Royal Air Force tankers flew 39 sorties and off-loaded almost 2.4 million pounds of fuel.
