CENTAF releases combined airpower summary Published July 3, 2006 SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFPN) -- U.S. Central Command Air Forces officials released the airpower summary for July 1 to 2.July 2In Afghanistan July 1, Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt IIs and B-1 Lancers provided close-air support for coalition forces taking small-arms fire from Taliban extremists near Gereshk. A B-1B expended a guided bomb unit-38 on the extremists' location, ending the engagement.In a separate engagement, A-10s, French Air Force Mirage M-2000s and Royal Air Force Harrier GR-7s provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with enemy forces near Gereshk. A B-1 also provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with enemy forces in the vicinity of Khowst.Additionally, seven U.S., French and Royal Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan.In total, coalition aircraft flew 21 close-air-support missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. These missions included support to coalition and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols.In Iraq, Air Force F-15 Eagles provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Baghdad. Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcons provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Al Iskandariyah.An Air Force MQ-1 Predator unmanned aerial vehicle and Royal Air Force Tornado GR-4s also provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Samarra.Additionally, 12 Air Force and Navy ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq. Air Force fighter aircraft performed in non-traditional ISR roles with their electro-optical and infrared sensors.In total, coalition aircraft flew 40 close-air-support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.On June 30, Air Force rescue and medical crews on HH-60 Pave Hawk helicopters flew four medical evacuation missions in support of OEF. Four Afghan National Army and two local national patients with injuries requiring urgent care were evacuated as a result of these missions.Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew 160 airlift sorties, delivered 480 tons of cargo and transported 2,400 passengers. This included more than 10,500 pounds of troop resupply airdropped in northeastern Afghanistan.Coalition C-130 crews from Canada and Japan flew in support of either OIF or OEF.On June 30, U.S., French and Royal Air Force tankers flew 39 sorties and off-loaded almost 2.3 million pounds of fuel.July 1In Iraq June 30, F-16s provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Al Hawijah and Al Iskandariyah. In total, coalition aircraft flew 44 close-air-support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom.
