CENTAF releases airpower summary Published June 30, 2006 SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFPN) -- U.S. Central Command Air Forces officials released the airpower summary for June 30.In Afghanistan June 29, Air Force B-1B Lancers provided close-air support for coalition forces taking small-arms and mortar fire from Taliban extremists near Tarin Kowt. The aircraft expended guided bomb unit-31s and GBU-38s on the extremists' locations, ending the engagement. In a separate engagement, Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt IIs and a B-1 and Royal Air Force Harrier GR-7s provided close-air support for coalition forces taking small-arms fire from Taliban extremists near Deh Rawood. The A-10s conducted several strafing passes, expending cannon rounds and ending the engagement. Royal Air Force GR-7s also provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with enemy forces near Tarin Kowt. Additionally, seven U.S. and French Air Force intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, or ISR, aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan. In total, coalition aircraft flew 21 close-air-support missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. These missions included support to coalition and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols. In Iraq, Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcons provided close-air support to coalition troops taking small-arms fire from anti-Iraqi forces near Al Habbaniyah. The F-16s expended GBU-12s and GBU-38s on the anti-Iraqi forces' locations, ending the engagement. Air Force F-15E Strike Eagles and an MQ-1 Predator unmanned aerial vehicle provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Baquba. Air Force F-16s also provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Al Iskandariyah and Baghdad International Airport. Additionally, 12 Air Force, Navy and Royal Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq . In total, coalition aircraft flew 44 close-air-support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities. On June 28, Air Force rescue and medical crews on HH-60 Pave Hawk helicopters flew three medical evacuation missions in support of OEF. Three U.S. military members with injuries requiring urgent care were evacuated as a result of these missions. Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew 150 airlift sorties, delivered 230 tons of cargo and transported 2,850 passengers. This included nearly 60,000 pounds of troop resupply airdropped in Afghanistan. Coalition C-130 crews from Australia, Canada and Korea flew in support of either OIF or OEF. On June 28, U.S., French and Royal Air Force tankers flew 43 sorties and off-loaded almost 2.8 million pounds of fuel.
