CENTAF releases combined airpower summary Published June 19, 2006 SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFPN) -- U.S. Central Command Air Forces officials released the combined airpower summary for June 16 to 18.June 18In Afghanistan June 17, an Air Force B-1B Lancer provided close-air support for coalition forces taking small arms and rocket-propelled grenade fire from Taliban extremists near Ghazni. The aircraft expended precision-guided joint direct attack munitions, or JDAMs, on the extremists’ location, ending the engagement. In total, coalition aircraft flew 25 close-air-support missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. These missions included support to coalition and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols. Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt IIs also provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with enemy forces near Oruzgan and Tarin Kowt. Four Air Force intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, or ISR, aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan. In Iraq, coalition aircraft flew 56 close-air-support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities. Air Force F-15E Strike Eagles and Navy F-18 Hornets provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Al Taji and Baqubah. In addition, 12 Air Force, Navy and Royal Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq. Navy fighter aircraft performed in non-traditional ISR roles with their electro-optical and infrared sensors. Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew 170 airlift sorties, delivered 370 tons of cargo and transported 3,200 passengers. This included more than 22,000 pounds of troop resupply air-dropped in Afghanistan. Coalition C-130 crews from Japan flew in support of either OIF or OEF. On June 17, Air Force and Royal Air Force tankers flew 45 sorties and off-loaded almost 2.7 million pounds of fuel. June 17In Afghanistan June 16, an Air Force B-1B conducted precision strikes on a cave complex, hillside and ridgeline near Khowst where anti-coalition forces were engaged. The aircraft expended several precision-guided JDAMs, destroying the cave complex and ending the engagement. In a separate engagement, Air Force A-10s and Royal Air Force Harrier GR-7s responded to coalition forces taking small arms fire from Taliban extremists near Orgun-E. The A-10s conducted strafing passes, expending cannon rounds and ending the engagement. A B-1B also provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with enemy forces near Parmakan. In total, coalition aircraft flew 28 close-air-support missions in support of OEF. These missions included support to coalition and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols. Six Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of OEF. In Iraq, coalition aircraft flew 56 close-air-support missions for OIF. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities. Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcons and an MQ-1 Predator unmanned aerial vehicle and Navy F-18s provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Al Iskandariyah, Al Mahmudiyah and Baqubah. In addition, 14 Air Force, Navy and Royal Australian Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq. Air Force rescue and medical crews on HH-60 Pave Hawk helicopters flew three medical evacuation missions in support of OEF June 16. Six patients with urgent injuries were saved as a result of these missions. In addition, HH-60s and pararescue teams conducted search operations for the two missing Soldiers in Iraq. Air Force C-130s and C-17s provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew 150 airlift sorties, delivered 280 tons of cargo and transported 2,350 passengers. This included nearly 30,000 pounds of troop resupply air-dropped in east and central Afghanistan. Coalition C-130 crews from Canada, Japan and Korea flew in support of either OIF or OEF. On June 16, Air Force and Royal Air Force tankers flew 39 sorties and off-loaded almost 2.4 million pounds of fuel.June 16In Iraq yesterday, Air Force F-16s conducted a precision strike on a building containing anti-coalition forces in the vicinity of Fallujah. The aircraft expended a guided bomb unit-12, successfully destroying the building. Air Force F-16s and an MQ-1 Predator UAV, and Navy F-18s also provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with enemy forces near Al Mahmudiyah. In total, coalition aircraft flew 55 close-air-support missions in support of OIF. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.Thirteen Air Force and Navy ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq. Navy fighter aircraft performed in a non-traditional ISR role with their electro-optical and infrared sensors. In Afghanistan, coalition aircraft flew 24 close-air-support missions for OEF. These missions included support to coalition and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols. Air Force A-10s provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with enemy forces near Asadabad and Bagram. In addition, eight Air Force and French ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan. Air Force C-130s and C-17s provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew 165 airlift sorties, delivered 460 tons of cargo and transported 2,300 passengers. This included 85,000 pounds of troop resupply air-dropped in northeast and central Afghanistan. Coalition C-130 crews from Australia, Canada and Korea flew in support of either OIF or OEF. On June 15, Air Force, Royal Air Force and French tankers flew 36 sorties and off-loaded almost 2.2 million pounds of fuel.
