AFN to air remaining World Cup matches

The American Forces Network Broadcast Center has been granted permission to distribute the full complement of remaining World Cup soccer matches.

The permission was arranged through News Corporation and Infront Sports and Media, along with the cooperation of a group of host-country rights holders.

U.S. Armed Forces stationed overseas will be able to enjoy live coverage of the majority of remaining group round play, all round of sixteen matches, quarterfinals, semifinals and the Championship match.

AFN's coverage of the World Cup has been approved for closed circuit distribution only and will be shown exclusively on AFNxtra, one of six television channels that AFN provides to its overseas military audiences.

AFN's World Cup coverage kicks off with pre-match coverage of the USA-Italy game from Kaiserslautern on Saturday, June 17 at 11:30 a.m. PDT (8:30 p.m. Central European Time, 10:30 p.m. Iraq time, Sunday 3:30 a.m. Japan/Korea time.)

As a Father's Day bonus, AFNxtra will offer triple-header coverage on Sunday, June 18, starting at 6 a.m. PDT (3 p.m. Central European Time, 5 p.m. Iraq time, 10 p.m. Japan/Korea time)
