CENTAF releases combined airpower summary Published June 12, 2006 SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFPN) -- U.S. Central Command Air Forces officials released the airpower summary for June 9 to 11.June 11 In Afghanistan June 10, Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt IIs conducted several strafing passes, firing cannon rounds against Taliban extremists near Oruzgan. In a second engagement, an MQ-1 Predator unmanned aerial vehicle fired a Hellfire missile and Air Force A-10s conducted strafing runs against anti-coalition forces near Deh Rawood. Air Force A-10s and a B-1B Lancer also provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with enemy forces near Asadabad, Ghazni and Kabul. In total, coalition aircraft flew 26 close-air-support missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. These missions included support to coalition and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols. Five Air Force intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, or ISR, aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan. In Iraq, Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcons and Predator UAVs conducted strikes against a suspected vehicle-borne improvised explosive devise near Fallujah. The A-10 expended cannon rounds and the Predators fired Hellfire missiles, destroying the vehicle and ending the engagement. Air Force F-16s and Royal Air Force Tornado GR-4s also provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Al Mahmudiyah, Mosul and Tikrit. In total, coalition aircraft flew 49 close-air-support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities. Additionally, 12 Air Force and Navy ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq. One Navy fighter aircraft performed in a non-traditional ISR role with its electro-optical and infrared sensors. Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew 170 airlift sorties, delivered 660 tons of cargo and transported 2,630 passengers. This included 33,000 pounds of troop re-supply air-dropped in east and central Afghanistan. Coalition C-130 crews from Australia, Canada and Korea flew in support of either OIF or OEF. On June 10, Air Force and Royal Air Force tankers flew 37 sorties and off-loaded almost 2.4 million pounds of fuel. June 10 In Afghanistan June 9, Air Force A-10s and a B-1B responded to coalition forces taking small-arms fire and rocket-propelled grenades from Taliban extremists near Orgun-E. The B-1B expended several precision-guided bombs on a cave complex the extremists withdrew into, destroying the cave and ending the engagement. In a separate engagement, A-10s expended general-purpose 500-pound bombs on Taliban extremists operating near Asadabad. Royal Air Force Harrier GR-7s also provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with enemy forces near Oruzgan. In total, coalition aircraft flew 24 close-air-support missions in support of OEF. These missions included support to coalition and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols. Five Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan. In Iraq, Navy F-18 Hornets expended Paveway II munitions on the point of origin of an attack on Balad Air Base. Air Force F-15 Eagles provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Al Taji and Amarah. In total, coalition aircraft flew 56 close-air-support missions for OIF. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities. In addition, 17 Air Force, Navy and Royal Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq. Navy fighter aircraft performed in a non-traditional ISR role with their electro-optical and infrared sensors. Air Force C-130s and C-17s provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew 160 airlift sorties, delivered 410 tons of cargo and transported 3,390 passengers.Coalition C-130 crews from Australia, Canada and Korea flew in support of either OIF or OEF. Navy fighter aircraft performed in non-traditional role with their electro-optical and infrared sensors. Air Force C-130s and C-17s provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew 180 airlift sorties, delivered 400 tons of cargo and transported 3,240 passengers. This included nearly 61,200 pounds of troop re-supply air-dropped in southeastern Afghanistan. Coalition C-130 crews from Australia, Canada, Japan and Korea flew in support of either OIF or OEF. On June 8, Air Force and Royal Air Force tankers flew 42 sorties and off-loaded almost 2.7 million pounds of fuel.
