CENTAF releases airpower summary

U.S. Central Command Air Forces officials released the airpower summary for June 7. 

In Afghanistan June 6, Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt IIs and a B-1 Lancer conducted close-air support to coalition forces engaged in direct fire from Taliban extremists near Tarin Kowt. The B-1B expended precision-guided joint direct attack munitions on the extremists and a cave complex thought to house more extremists.

In addition, Air Force A-10s provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with enemy forces near Deh Rawood and Jalalabad.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 22 close-air-support missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. These missions included support to coalition and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols.

Six Air Force and Royal Air Force intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, or ISR, aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan.

In Iraq, coalition aircraft flew 34 close-air-support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

Air Force F-15 Eagles and F-16 Fighting Falcons and Royal Air Force Tornado GR-4s provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Al Hawijah, Al Mahmudiyah and Ar Ramadi.

In addition, 13 Air Force, Navy and Royal Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq.

Air Force rescue and medical crews on HH-60 Pave Hawk helicopters flew three medical evacuation missions in support of OEF June 6. Three patients with injuries requiring urgent care were evacuated as a result of these missions.

Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew 170 airlift sorties, delivered 390 tons of cargo and transported 2,520 passengers. This included one flight by a C-17 to four drop zones in northeastern and southeastern Afghanistan, airdropping nearly 40,000 pounds of troop re-supply, including food, water and ammunition.

Coalition C-130 crews from Australia, Canada, Japan and Korea flew in support of either OIF or OEF.

On June 5, U.S., French and Royal Air Force tankers flew 37 sorties and off-loaded almost 2 million pounds of fuel.
