CENTAF releases combined airpower summary

U.S. Central Command Air Forces officials released the airpower summary for June 2 to 4.

June 4
In Afghanistan June 3, Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt IIs, a B-1B Lancer and Royal Air Force Harrier GR-7s responded to coalition forces taking small-arms fire from Taliban extremists near Gereshk. The A-10s conducted a strafing pass, firing cannon rounds and ending the engagement.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 26 close-air-support missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. These missions included support to coalition and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols.

Air Force A-10s, F-16 Fighting Falcons and a B-1B also provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with enemy forces near Asadabad and Orgun-E.

Seven U.S. Air Force intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, or ISR, aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan.

In Iraq, coalition aircraft flew 34 close-air-support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

Air Force F-16s, MQ-1 Predator unmanned aerial vehicles and Royal Air Force Tornado GR-4s provided close-air-support to coalition troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Ramadi.

In addition, 15 Air Force, Navy and Royal Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq .

Air Force rescue and medical crews on HH-60 Pave Hawk helicopters flew two medical evacuation missions in support of OEF June 3.

Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew 170 airlift sorties, delivered 530 tons of cargo and transported 2,720 passengers.

Coalition C-130 crews from Australia, Canada and Korea flew in support of either OIF or OEF.

On June 3, U.S., French and Royal Air Force tankers flew 33 sorties and off-loaded almost 2 million pounds of fuel.

In support of OEF, coalition C-130s conducted two major airdrops to coalition ground forces in northeastern and central Afghanistan June 2. The aircraft dropped more than 4,000 pounds of humanitarian civil assistance, which included food, water and supplies for the local population. Also air-dropped was 19,600 pounds of troop re-supply, to include food, water and ammunition.

Coalition aircraft flew 20 close-air-support missions in support of OEF. These missions included support to coalition and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols.

Air Force A-10s, a B-1B and a French M-2000 Mirage also provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with enemy forces near Jalalabad and Qalat.

Seven Air Force and Royal Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan.

In Iraq, coalition aircraft flew 33 close-air-support missions for OIF. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

Air Force F-15 Eagles and F-16s provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Baghdad.

In addition, 16 Air Force, Navy and Royal Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq .

Air Force rescue and medical crews on HH-60 Pave Hawk helicopters flew three medical evacuation missions in support of OEF June 2. Three patients requiring urgent care were saved as a result of these missions.

Air Force C-130s and C-17s provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew 170 airlift sorties, delivered 400 tons of cargo and transported 2,700 passengers.

June 2 
In Afghanistan June 1, an Air Force B-1B, an MQ-1 Predator UAV and A-10s conducted precision strikes against Taliban positions near Deh Rawood. The B-1B expended precision-guided joint direct attack munitions on an enemy bunker and arsenal where Taliban extremists were loading munitions from a cave into a truck. The cave and arsenal were destroyed.

Air Force A-10s and an MQ-1 Predator UAV responded to coalition forces taking small-arms fire and rocket-propelled grenades from Taliban extremists near Tarin Kowt. The A-10s dropped general-purpose 500-pound bombs and fired cannon rounds on identified enemy targets, ending the engagement.

In two other engagements, Air Force A-10s, F-16s, Predator UAVs, Royal Air Force GR-7s and French Air Force M-2000s responded to troops in contact, conducting precision strikes and expending Hellfire missiles and cannon rounds near Deh Rawood and Tarin Kowt.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 28 close-air-support missions in support of OEF. These missions included support to coalition and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols.

Six U.S. Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan.

In Iraq, coalition aircraft flew 42 close-air-support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

Air Force F-16s provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Ramadi.

In addition, 14 Air Force and Navy ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq .

Air Force C-130s and C-17s provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew 170 airlift sorties, delivered 110 tons of cargo and transported 2,350 passengers.

Coalition C-130 crews from Australia, Canada and Korea flew in support of either OIF or OEF.

On June 1, U.S. and French tankers flew 29 sorties and off-loaded almost 1.8 million pounds of fuel.
