CENTAF releases airpower summary

U.S. Central Command Air Forces officials released the airpower summary for May 30.

In Afghanistan, Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt IIs responded to coalition troops taking small-arms fire from Taliban extremists near Deh Rawood. The A-10s conducted several strafing passes, ending the engagement. 

In total, coalition aircraft flew 20 close-air-support missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. These missions included support to coalition and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols.
 
Air Force A-10s, a B-1B Lancer and a Predator unmanned aerial vehicle also provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with enemy forces near Asadabad, Deh Rawood, Gereshk and Oruzgan. 

Six Air Force intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, or ISR, aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan.

An Air Force rescue crew on a HH-60 Pave Hawk helicopter flew one mission in support of OEF yesterday, transporting one coalition patient with critical injuries. 

In Iraq, coalition aircraft flew 36 close-air-support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities. 

Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcons provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Balad and Tikrit. 

In addition, 14 Air Force and Navy ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq.
 
United States Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew 150 airlift sorties, delivered 370 tons of cargo and transported 1,790 passengers.

Coalition C-130 crews from Australia, Canada and Korea flew in support of either OIF or OEF.
 
On May 29, Air Force and Royal Air Force tankers flew 31 sorties and off-loaded almost 1.8 million pounds of fuel.
