CENTAF releases combined airpower summary Published May 30, 2006 SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFPN) -- U.S. Central Command Air Forces officials release the airpower summary for May 26 to 29.May 29Coalition aircraft flew 36 close-air-support missions May 29 for Operation Iraqi Freedom. The missions supported coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities, and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities. F-16 Fighting Falcons provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Ramadi. In addition, 15 Air Force and Navy intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, or ISR, aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq. In Afghanistan, coalition aircraft flew 22 close-air-support missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. The missions supported coalition and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and presence route patrols. A-10 Thunderbolt IIs provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with enemy forces near Jalalabad. Five Air Force and RAF ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan. C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intratheater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew approximately 175 airlift sorties, delivered almost 400 tons of cargo and transported nearly 2,140 passengers. Coalition C-130 crews from Australia, Canada and South Korea flew in support of either OIF or OEF. On May 28, Air Force, RAF and French tankers flew 33 sorties and off-loaded almost 2 million pounds of fuel. May 28In Afghanistan May 28, B-1B Lancers provided air support to coalition forces under small arms and rocket-propelled grenade fire near Deh Rawood. The aircraft were called in to perform precision strikes against Taliban extremists taking cover in a compound. The aircraft expended precision-guided JDAMs on Taliban positions, destroying the compound and ending the engagement. In total, coalition aircraft flew 26 close-air-support missions in support of OEF. The missions supported coalition and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and presence route patrols. A-10s and MQ-1 Predator aircraft as well as RAF Harrier GR-7s also provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with enemy forces near Deh Rawood, Ghazni, Kandahar and Qalat. Four Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan. In Iraq, coalition aircraft flew 36 close-air-support missions for OIF. The missions supported coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities. F-16s provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Tikrit. In addition, 16 Air Force, Navy and RAF ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq. HH-60 Pave Hawk helicopter rescue crews flew six missions in support of OEF May 28, safely evacuating 13 coalition and civilian patients with either urgent or life-threatening injuries. C-130s and C-17s provided intratheater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew approximately 160 airlift sorties, delivered almost 380 tons of cargo and transported nearly 1,500 passengers. Coalition C-130 crews from Australia flew in support of either OIF or OEF. On May 27, Air Force and RAF tankers flew 31 sorties and off-loaded almost 1.9 million pounds of fuel. May 27In Iraq May 27, a Predator unmanned aerial vehicle conducted a precision strike against insurgents placing an improvised explosive device near Ramadi. The aircraft expended a Hellfire missile killing three insurgents and disrupting the placement of the IED. In a separate engagement near Ramadi, F-15 Eagles dropped precision-guided JDAMs successfully destroying a weapons cache. F-15s also provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with enemy forces near Baquba, conducting two strafing passes and successfully ending the engagement. In total, coalition aircraft flew 42 close-air-support missions in support of OIF. The missions supported coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities, and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities. Fourteen Air Force and Navy ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq. In Afghanistan, coalition aircraft flew 22 close-air-support missions for OEF. The missions supported coalition and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and presence route patrols. Four Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan. HH-60 search and rescue crews flew two missions in support of OIF yesterday, responding to a Marine helicopter down near Ramadi. C-130s and C-17s provided intratheater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew approximately 170 airlift sorties, transported nearly 3,700 passengers and delivered almost 460 tons of cargo including 12,000 pounds of humanitarian aid and troop re-supply air-dropped in Afghanistan. Coalition C-130 crews from Australia, Canada and Japan flew in support of either OIF or OEF. On May 26, Air Force, RAF and French tankers flew 36 sorties and off-loaded almost 2.5 million pounds of fuel. May 26In Afghanistan May 26, A-10s, B-1Bs and Predator aircraft conducted precision strikes on insurgent training facilities near Deh Rawood. The aircraft expended precision-guided JDAMs, Hellfire missiles, Paveway II munitions and cannon rounds. In total, coalition aircraft flew 25 close-air-support missions in support of OEF. The missions supported coalition and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and presence route patrols. An A-10 and a B-1B also provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with enemy forces near Oruzgan and Qalat. Seven Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan. In Iraq, coalition aircraft flew 36 close-air-support missions for OIF. The missions supported coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities. F-16s provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Al Miqdadiyah and Tikrit. In addition, 12 Air Force and Navy ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq.An HH-60 rescue crew flew one mission in support of OEF. On May 25, Air Force, French and RAF tankers flew 40 sorties and off-loaded almost 2.4 million pounds of fuel.
