Air Force announces OTS selection board results Published May 22, 2006 RANDOLPH AIR FORCE BASE, Texas (AFPN) -- One hundred seventy-seven men and women have been selected for the opportunity to become Air Force officers, officials here announced May 19.Of those, 37 enlisted members earned the chance to attend Officer Training School and trade their stripes for gold bars as second lieutenants. The Air Force Recruiting Service selection board chose 206 out of 344 applications considered for a 59.8 percent selection rate. Twenty-nine candidates who are dually approved to pursue pilot or navigator training will be given a choice between the two occupations. The requirements for fiscal 2006 and 2007 are expected to be approximately 500 selectees each year, according to AFRS officials. As part of the selection process, board members review both objective and subjective factors. Objectively, the board considers each applicant’s academic discipline, grade point average and Air Force Officer Qualifying Test scores. Subjectively, board members evaluate work experience, accomplishments, adaptability, character, leadership ability, potential for future growth and other recommendations. For active-duty enlisted Airmen, performance reports and commander’s recommendations are also evaluated. Three Air Force colonels review every application. The selection process is similar to an Air Force officer promotion board. No single factor leads to an individual's selection or nonselection, according to OTS selection officials. People selected can expect to receive class assignment information approximately four to 12 months after their flying class physical is certified. For more information concerning OTS and the application process, active-duty Airmen should contact their local education office; civilians should contact their nearest Air Force recruiter.
