CENTAF releases airpower summary report Published April 11, 2006 SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFPN) -- Coalition aircraft flew 46 close-air-support missions April 10 for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities. Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcons, F-15 Eagles, and Navy F/A-18 Hornets provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Al Hawijah, Al Mahmudiyah, Balad, Hit and Tikrit. In addition, 12 Air Force and Navy intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, or ISR, aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq. Air Force F-16 and Navy F-18 fighter aircraft performed in a non-traditional ISR role with their electro-optical and infrared sensors. Coalition aircraft flew 24 close-air-support missions for Operation Enduring Freedom. These missions included support to coalition and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols. An Air Force B-52 Stratofortress and several Royal Air Force GR-7 Harrier IIs provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with enemy forces near Kandahar. Six Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan. Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew 190 airlift sorties, delivered 460 tons of cargo and transported 2,600 passengers. Coalition C-130 crews from Australia, Canada, Japan and South Korea flew in support of either OIF or OEF. On April 9, Air Force and Royal Air Force tankers flew 33 sorties and off-loaded almost 2.6 million pounds of fuel.
