CENTAF releases combined airpower summary

U.S. Central Command Air Forces officials released the airpower summary for April 1 to 3.

In Afghanistan April 2, an Air Force B-52 Stratofortress provided close air support to coalition troops in contact with enemy forces near Oruzgan. The B-52 successfully dropped GBU-31 precision-guided JDAMs against enemy targets.

Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt IIs provided close air support to coalition troops in contact with enemy forces near Deh Rawood. An A-10 successfully expended a MK-82, 500 pound general-purpose bomb against an enemy target.

Coalition aircraft flew a total of 18 close-air-support missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. They included support to coalition and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and presence route patrols.

Six Air Force Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance, or ISR, aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan.

In Iraq, coalition aircraft flew 26 close-air-support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. They included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities, and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcons and F-15 Eagles provided close air support to coalition troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Al Mahmudiyah, Al Miqdadiyah, Tikrit and Ramadi.

In addition, 14 Air Force and Navy ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq.

Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intratheater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew 170 airlift sorties, transported 2,115 passengers and delivered 360 tons of cargo including 24 tons of troop re-supply air-dropped in Afghanistan.

Coalition C-130 crews from Australia, Canada, Japan and South Korea flew in support of either OIF or OEF.

On April 1 Air Force and Royal Air Force tankers flew 31 sorties and off-loaded almost 2.3 million pounds of fuel.

Four Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan.

In Iraq, coalition aircraft flew 50 close-air-support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. They included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities, and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

Air Force F-16s and Navy F/A-18 Hornets provided close air support to coalition troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Al Hawijah, Al Mahmudiyah, Al Miqdadiyah, Balad, Ramadi and Tikrit.

In addition, 12 Air Force and Navy ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq. Also, Air Force fighter aircraft flew in a non-traditional ISR role with their electro-optical and infrared sensors.

Air Force C-130s and C-17s provided intratheater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew 185 airlift sorties, delivered 670 tons of cargo and transported 2,870 passengers.

On March 31 Air Force and RAF tankers flew 35 sorties and off-loaded almost 2.8 million pounds of fuel.

Coalition aircraft flew 60 close-air-support missions March 31 for Operation Iraqi Freedom. They included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities, and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

Air Force F-16s, F-15s, and Navy F/A-18s provided close air support to coalition troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Al Miqdadiyah, Baquba and Fallujah.

In addition, 15 Air Force, Navy, RAF and Royal Australian Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq. Also, Air Force fighter aircraft flew in a non-traditional ISR role with their electro-optical and infrared sensors.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 22 close-air-support missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. They included support to coalition and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and presence route patrols.

Five Air Force and RAF ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan.

Air Force C-130s and C-17s provided intratheater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew 180 airlift sorties, delivered 590 tons of cargo and transported 3,600 passengers.

Coalition C-130 crews from Australia and Canada flew in support of either OIF or OEF.

On March 30 Air Force tankers flew 35 sorties and off-loaded almost 2.8 million pounds of fuel.
