CENTAF releases combined airpower summary

U.S. Central Command Air Forces officials released the airpower summary for March 25 to 28.

An Air Force MQ-1 Predator flying in Operation Iraqi Freedom identified anti-Coalition forces placing an improvised explosive device near Balad Air Base, Iraq. The aircraft successfully expended an AGM-114 “Hellfire” precision-guided munition against the enemy forces.

In other OIF action, Air Force F-15 Eagles and Navy F/A-18 Hornets provided close air support to coalition troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Al Hawijah, Mosul and Tikrit.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 46 close-air-support missions for OIF March 27. They included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities, and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

In addition, 15 Air Force, Navy and Royal Air Force intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, or ISR, aircraft flew missions to support operations in Iraq. Also, Air Force fighter aircraft flew in a non-traditional ISR role with their electro-optical and infrared sensors.

In Afghanistan, coalition aircraft flew 20 close-air-support missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. They included support to coalition and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and presence route patrols.

Four Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan.

Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intratheater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew 160 airlift sorties, delivered 510 tons of cargo and transported 2,950 passengers.

Coalition C-130 crews from Australia, Canada, Japan and South Korea flew in support of either OIF or OEF.

On March 26 Air Force tankers flew 25 sorties and off-loaded more than 2.1 million pounds of fuel.

Coalition aircraft flew 50 close-air-support missions March 26 for Operation Iraqi Freedom. They included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities, and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcons and Navy F/A-18s provided close air support to coalition troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Al Hawijah and Tikrit.

In addition, 13 Air Force, Navy and RAF ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq. Also, Air Force fighter aircraft flew in a non-traditional ISR role with their electro-optical and infrared sensors.

On March 25 Air Force and RAF tankers flew 36 sorties and off-loaded more than 2.7 million pounds of fuel.

Coalition aircraft flew 54 close-air-support missions March 25 for Operation Iraqi Freedom. They included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities, and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

Air Force F-15s and Navy F/A-18s provided close air support to coalition troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Al Amarah and Salman Pak.

In addition, 14 Air Force, Navy, Royal Australian Air Force and RAF ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq. Also, Air Force fighter aircraft flew in a non-traditional ISR role with their electro-optical and infrared sensors.

In Afghanistan, coalition aircraft flew 24 close-air-support missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. They included support to coalition and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and presence route patrols.

Coalition aircraft flew 50 close-air-support missions March 24 for Operation Iraqi Freedom. They included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities, and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

Air Force F-15s and Navy F/A-18s provided close air support to coalition troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Al Mahmudiyah, Baquba and Ramadi.

In addition, 13 Air Force, Navy and RAF ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq. Also, Air Force fighter aircraft flew in a non-traditional ISR role with their electro-optical and infrared sensors.

In Afghanistan, coalition aircraft flew 18 close-air-support missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. They included support to coalition and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and presence route patrols.

An Air Force B-52 Stratofortress and A-10 Thunderbolt IIs provided close air support to coalition troops in contact with enemy forces near Gereshk. The B-52 and A-10s successfully expended precision guided munitions against an enemy firing position.

Three Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan.

Air Force C-130s and C-17s provided intratheater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew 190 airlift sorties, transported 3,530 passengers and delivered 375 tons of cargo including 30,200 pounds of humanitarian aid and 12,800 pounds of troop re-supply air-dropped in Afghanistan.

On March 23 Air Force and RAF tankers flew 34 sorties and off-loaded more than 2.4 million pounds of fuel.
