ANDERSEN AIR FORCE BASE, Guam (AFPN) -- An official name change has been granted to Andersen’s host unit. Andersen is now home of the 36th Wing -- a designation that was announced March 16 to better reflect the growing mission.
Previously, the official designation of the wing was the 36th Air Base Wing, while recently the wing was using a temporary designation of air expeditionary wing.
“This is indicative of how vitally important the base and Guam are to the national security concerns and interests of the United States and our allies in the Pacific,” said Col. Michael Boera, 36th Wing commander, after receiving notification from Pacific Air Forces Commander Gen. Paul V. Hester.
Also, this current change in the wing’s official designation better aligns Andersen with PACAF’s mission statement:
“To provide a U.S.-based lethal warfighting platform for the employment, deployment, reception, and throughput of air and space forces in the Asia-Pacific region.”
