Reservists assigned to the 512th Airlift Wing and their families can cut wait times to receive new ID cards by booking online appointments in the Real-Time Automated Personnel Identification System.

This online program allows individuals to schedule appointments for obtaining a Department of Defense ID card at participating issuance offices.

Maj. Andrew Williams, 512th Force Support Squadron commander, said the RAPIDS Appointment Scheduler is an initiative to improve office efficiency, allow for more predictability in personnel scheduling and ultimately increase customer benefit.

“We’re working to really satisfy the customer’s needs,” said Williams. “We really want to give them back a little more of their valuable time.”

By visiting https://rapids-appointments.dmdc.osd.mil, service members and their families can select the option to make an appointment, find an appointment or cancel an existing one. When making an appointment to get a new ID, the RAPIDS Appointment Scheduler will list all required documents, as well as the address to the location of the scheduled appointment and provide access to available calendar dates.

Master Sgt. Karista Lowrey, 512th Customer Support Section chief, said customers commonly arrive at the same time and wait up to two hours for help during Unit Training Assemblies.

“We encourage reservists to make appointment so they don’t have to wait so long to get a new ID,” she added. “Appointments can reduce wait times by as much as an hour and a half. They can receive an ID in 20 to 25 minutes on average, and can make appointments 90 days out. It’s not beneficial to have to sit and wait a couple hours when they have more appointments to accomplish.”

During UTA weekends, the 512th FSS provides ID services for an average of 75 reservists.

The RAPIDS Appointment Scheduler is a new program for the Liberty Wing.

Lowrey said the program will organize the office better and make the day easier for FSS personnel, service members and family.
