CENTAF releases combined airpower summary Published Feb. 21, 2006 SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFPN) -- U.S Central Command Air Forces officials released the airpower summary for Feb. 18 to 21.Coalition aircraft flew 32 close-air-support missions Feb. 20 for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities. Air Force F-15 Eagles and F-16 Fighting Falcons provided close air support to coalition troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Baghdad, Baquba, Karbala, Salman Pak and Samarra. In addition, 12 Air Force, Navy and Royal Air Force intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, or ISR, aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq. Also, U.S. Air Force fighter aircraft flew in a non-traditional ISR role with their electro-optical and infrared sensors. In Afghanistan, coalition aircraft flew 18 close-air-support missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. They included support to coalition and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and presence route patrols. Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt IIs and RAF Harrier GR-7s provided close air support to coalition troops in contact with enemy forces near Deh Rawood and Gereshk.Four Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan. Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intratheater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew 170 airlift sorties, delivered 410 tons of cargo and transported 3,340 passengers. Coalition C-130 crews from Australia, Canada and Japan flew in support of either OIF or OEF. On Feb. 19 Air Force and RAF tankers flew 28 sorties and off-loaded more than 2.4 million pounds of fuel. Coalition aircraft flew 40 close-air-support missions Feb. 19 for Operation Iraqi Freedom. They included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities. Air Force F-15s and F-16s provided close air support to coalition troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Baghdad and Balad. In addition, 12 Air Force, Navy and RAF ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq. Also, Air Force fighter aircraft flew in a non-traditional ISR role with their electro-optical and infrared sensors. In Afghanistan, coalition aircraft flew 18 close-air-support missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. They included support to coalition and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and presence route patrols. The Thunderbolt IIs successfully strafed an enemy position with cannon rounds, while the Tornados successfully expended precision-guided munitions against the enemy position. On Feb. 18 Air Force and RAF tankers flew 29 sorties and off-loaded more than 1.8 million pounds of fuel. Coalition aircraft flew 42 close-air-support missions Feb. 18 for Operation Iraqi Freedom. They included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities, and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities. Air Force F-15s and Navy F/A-18 Hornets provided close air support to coalition troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Al Iskandariyah and Fallujah. In addition, 13 Air Force, Navy and RAF ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq. Also, Air Force fighter aircraft flew in a non-traditional ISR role with their electro-optical and infrared sensors. In Afghanistan, coalition aircraft flew 18 close-air-support missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. They included support to coalition and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and presence route patrols. Air Force A-10s provided close air support to coalition troops in contact with enemy forces near Orgun-E and Oruzgan. Three Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan. Air Force C-130s and C-17s provided intratheater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew 165 airlift sorties, delivered 340 tons of cargo and transported 3,530 passengers.Coalition C-130 crews from Canada, Japan and South Korea flew in support of either OIF or OEF. Also, Air Force fighter aircraft flew in a non-traditional ISR role with their electro-optical and infrared sensors. In Afghanistan, coalition aircraft flew 16 close-air-support missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. They included support to coalition and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and presence route patrols. Three Air Force and RAF ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan. Air Force C-130s and C-17s provided intratheater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew 200 airlift sorties, delivered 470 tons of cargo and transported 4,880 passengers.Coalition C-130 crews from Canada flew in support of either OIF or OEF. On Feb. 16, Air Force and RAF tankers flew 29 sorties and off-loaded more than 2.1 million pounds of fuel.
