CENTAF releases combined airpower summary

U.S. Central Command Air Forces officials released the airpower summary for Feb. 4 to 6.

Coalition aircraft flew 57 close-air-support missions Feb. 5 for Operation Iraqi Freedom. They included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

Navy F/A-18 Hornets provided close air support to coalition troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Balad. The F/A-18s successfully expended a precision guided munition against an enemy position.

Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcons and Navy F/A-18 provided close air support to coalition troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Al Taji and Mosul.

In addition, 17 Air Force, Navy and Royal Air Force intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, or ISR, aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq. Also, Air Force fighter aircraft flew in a non-traditional ISR role with their electro-optical and infrared sensors.

In Afghanistan, coalition aircraft flew 18 close-air-support missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. They included support to coalition and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and presence route patrols.

Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt IIs and F-15 Eagles provided close air support to coalition forces in contact with enemy troops near Deh Rawood.

Four Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan.

Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intratheater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew 180 airlift sorties, delivered 300 tons of cargo and transported 2,100 passengers.

Coalition C-130 crews from Australia, Canada and Japan flew in support of either OIF or OEF.

On Feb. 4, Air Force and RAF tankers flew 34 sorties and off-loaded more than 2.5 million pounds of fuel.

Coalition aircraft flew 56 close-air-support missions Feb. 4 for Operation Iraqi Freedom. They included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

Air Force F-15s provided close air support to coalition troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Baghdad and Tikrit.

In addition, 16 Air Force, Navy and RAF ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq. Also, Air Force fighter aircraft flew in a non-traditional ISR role with their electro-optical and infrared sensors.

In Afghanistan, coalition aircraft flew 19 close-air-support missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. They included support to coalition and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and presence route patrols.

RAF Harrier GR-7s, Air Force A-10s and a B-52 Stratofortress provided close air support to coalition troops near Deh Rawood. The B-52 successfully expended preceision-guided munitions against enemy firing positions.

Four Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan.

Air Force C-130s and C-17s provided intratheater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew 185 airlift sorties, delivered 225 tons of cargo and transported 3,135 passengers.

Coalition C-130 crews from Canada, Japan and South Korea flew in support of either OIF or OEF.

On Feb. 3 Air Force and RAF tankers flew 31 sorties and off-loaded more than 1.5 million pounds of fuel.

Coalition aircraft flew 28 close-air-support missions Feb. 3 for Operation Iraqi Freedom. They included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

Air Force F-15s provided close air support to coalition troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Samarra.

In addition, 12 Air Force, Navy, Royal Australian Air Force and RAF ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq. Also, Air Force fighter aircraft flew in a non-traditional ISR role with their electro-optical and infrared sensors.

In Afghanistan, coalition aircraft flew 20 close-air-support missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. They included support to coalition and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and presence route patrols.

Air Force A-10s and RAF GR-7s provided close air support to coalition troops in contact with enemy forces near Gereshk. The GR-7s successfully expended precision-guided munitions against an enemy firing position. The A-10s successfully strafed the target with approximately 230 cannon rounds.

An Air Force B-52, A-10s, Predators and a Navy EA-6B Prowler provided close air support to coalition forces in contact with enemy troops near Khowst, Gereshk and Orgun-E.

Five Air Force and RAF ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan.

Air Force C-130s and C-17s provided intratheater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew 130 airlift sorties, transported 1,745 passengers and delivered 305 tons of cargo including 6,000 pounds of ammunition air-dropped to coalition troops in Afghanistan.

Coalition C-130 crews from Canada flew in support of either OIF or OEF.

On Feb. 2 Air Force and RAF tankers flew 39 sorties and off-loaded more than 2.3 million pounds of fuel.
