CENTAF releases combined airpower summary report

U.S. Central Command Air Forces officials released today’s combined airpower summary for Dec. 30 to Jan. 3.

On Dec. 29, Air Force and Royal Air Force tankers flew 30 sorties and off-loaded more than 2.3 million pounds of fuel.

Coalition aircraft flew 54 close-air-support missions Dec. 30 for Operation Iraqi Freedom. They included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcons provided close air support to coalition troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Balad. The fighters successfully dropped a precision-guided munition against an insurgent firing position.

Navy F/A-18 Hornets provided close air support to coalition troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Balad.

In addition, 12 Air Force and Navy intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq.

In Afghanistan, coalition aircraft flew 20 close-air-support missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. They included support to coalition and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and the conduct of presence route patrols.

In addition, four Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan.

Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intratheater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew 175 airlift sorties, delivered 145 tons of cargo and transported 2,100 passengers. This included approximately 13,500 pounds of troop re-supply air-dropped in eastern Afghanistan.

Coalition C-130 crews from Australia, Canada and Japan flew in support of either OIF or OEF.

Coalition aircraft flew 56 close-air-support missions Dec. 31 for Operation Iraqi Freedom. They included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

Air Force F-16s and Navy F/A-18s provided close air support to coalition troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Al Iskandariyah, Balad, Bayji and Ramadi.

In addition, 14 Air Force and Navy intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq. Also, Air Force and RAF fighter aircraft performed in a non-traditional ISR role with their electro-optical and infrared sensors.

In Afghanistan, coalition aircraft flew 16 close-air-support missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. They included support to coalition and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and the conduct of presence route patrols.

In addition, two Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan.

Air Force C-130s and C-17s provided intratheater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew 190 airlift sorties, delivered 360 tons of cargo and transported 3,000 passengers. This included approximately 16,000 pounds of civic aid air-dropped in eastern Afghanistan.

Coalition C-130 crews from Australia and the South Korea flew in support of either OIF or OEF.

On Dec. 30, Air Force tankers flew 28 sorties and off-loaded nearly 2.3 million pounds of fuel.

Coalition aircraft flew 50 close-air-support missions Jan. 1 for Operation Iraqi Freedom. They included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

Air Force F-15 Eagles flew a preplanned air strike near Ar Rutbah. The F-15s successfully dropped four precision-guided munitions against an enemy weapons cache.

Air Force F-16s provided close air support to coalition troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Bayji. The fighters successfully dropped two precision-guided munitions against an insurgent’s vehicle.

Navy F/A-18s provided close air support to coalition troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Al Miqdadiyah. The F/A-18s successfully strafed the target with more than 650 cannon rounds and successfully fired a Maverick missile against enemy firing positions.

Other Air Force F-16s and Navy F/A-18s provided close air support to coalition troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Al Hawijah, Baghdad and Balad.

In addition, 14 Air Force and Navy intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq. Also, Air Force and RAF fighter aircraft performed in a non-traditional ISR role with their electro-optical and infrared sensors.

In Afghanistan, coalition aircraft flew five close-air-support missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. They included support to coalition and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and the conduct of presence route patrols.

In addition, three Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan. Also, RAF fighter aircraft performed in a non-traditional ISR role.

Navy F-14 Tomcats flew an airstrike near Bayji. The F-14s successfully strafed the target with 100 cannon rounds and successfully dropped one precision-guided munition against insurgents placing an improvised explosive device.

Air Force F-15s and Navy F/A-18s provided close air support to coalition troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Balad and Tikrit.

In addition, 12 Air Force and Navy intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq. Also, Air Force and RAF fighter aircraft performed in a non-traditional ISR role with their electro-optical and infrared sensors.

In Afghanistan, coalition aircraft flew 17 close-air-support missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. They included support to coalition and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and the conduct of presence route patrols.

In addition, six Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan.

Air Force C-130s and C-17s provided intratheater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew 165 airlift sorties, delivered 335 tons of cargo and transported 2,500 passengers. This included approximately 32,000 pounds of troop re-supply air-dropped in western Iraq.

Coalition C-130 crews from Australia and South Korea flew in support of either OIF or OEF.

On Jan. 1, Air Force and RAF tankers flew 31 sorties and off-loaded more than two million pounds of fuel.
