Servicemembers at Film City in Kosovo raised more than $1,200 to keep a Pristina community center operating this winter.

The money will buy enough fuel oil to keep the center’s generator running during the coldest time of year. The generators provide electricity and heat.

To show their appreciation, children at the center sang and danced for the troops. They also gave them home-made thank you cards.

In this area of Serbia-Montenegro, many people cannot afford to send their children to school or buy clothes and books. The community center often acts as a safe haven for children and their parents, said Petty Officer 1st Class Jose Martinez.

Members from all the services took part in the project. The troops are with the Kosovo Force, which has its headquarters at NATO Base Film City.

Master Sgt. Stanley McDonald, the first sergeant at Film City, said it was another example of the “one team, one fight” concept.

“We are an American family here,” he said. “And this just proves it even more.”
