(AFPN) -- Airmen fighting and training to fight the global war on terrorism have a new weapon -- a fifth C-130J Hercules. Lt. Gen. Dennis Larsen, Air Education and Training Command vice commander, delivered the new Hercules to the base’s Dec. 6 and added another first to his career. “This is the first C-130 I’ve ever flown,” the general said. “It’s an honor to deliver the most sophisticated C-130 yet to the ‘Home of the Herc.’” With two more of the new transport coming in December, the Little Rock’s “J fleet” will stand at seven. Brig. Gen. Kip Self, the 314th Airlift Wing commander, said although the work to bring a new J models to the base is extensive, the result is great. “The delivery is a culmination of a lot of hard work,” General Self said. “It brings continued combat capability to Little Rock and to the (area of responsibility).” And as the number of active-duty “Js” grows, the demand for their capabilities increases. “We’re finding it’s the most-requested aircraft in the AOR,” General Larsen said. “Our capability with this aircraft increases about 40 to 50 percent. We can fly higher and faster, and carry two more pallets per flight. “This truly is a fantastic airplane,” he said.
