CENTAF releases airpower summary report

U.S. Central Command Air Forces officials released today's airpower summary report.

Coalition aircraft flew 52 close-air support missions Dec. 1 for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

Coalition aircraft also supported Iraqi and Coalition ground forces operations focused on creating a secure environment for upcoming December parliamentary elections.

An Air Force MQ-1 Predator successfully fired Hellfire missiles near Karabilah, destroying a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device.

Navy F/A-18 Hornets flew an air strike near Balad, successfully dropping precision-guided munitions against an enemy mortar position.

In addition, 14 Air Force and Navy intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq. Also, Royal Air Force fighter aircraft flew in a non-traditional ISR role with their electro-optical and infrared sensors.

In Afghanistan, coalition aircraft flew 17 close air support missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. These missions included support to coalition and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities, and the conduct of presence route patrols.

Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt IIs provided close-air support to coalition forces in contact with enemy troops near Oruzgan.

In addition, two Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan.

Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster aircraft provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew nearly 150 airlift sorties, delivered some 325 tons of cargo and transported about 2,700 passengers. This included approximately 13,700 pounds of troop re-supply airdropped in central Afghanistan.

Coalition C-130 crews from Australia, Canada and Japan flew in support of either OIF or OEF.

On Nov. 30, U.S. Air Force and RAF tankers flew 35 sorties and off-loaded nearly 2.4 million pounds of fuel.
