CENTAF releases airpower summary Published Nov. 30, 2005 U.S. Central Command Air Forces Forward Public Affairs SOUTHWEST ASIA -- U.S. Central Command Air Forces officials released today's airpower summary. Coalition aircraft flew 55 close-air support missions Nov. 29 for Operation Iraqi Freedom. They supported coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities, and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities. Coalition aircraft also supported Iraqi and coalition ground forces operations focused to create a secure environment for upcoming December parliamentary elections. Navy F/A-18 Hornets performed an air strike near Baghdad, firing a successful Maverick missile against a building used by insurgents. Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcons provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Al Hawijah and Al Miqdadiyah. Seven Air Force, Navy, and Royal Australian Air Force intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq. In Afghanistan, coalition aircraft flew 20 close air support missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. These missions included support to coalition and Afghan troops and reconstruction activities and the conduct of presence route patrols. An Air Force B-52 Stratofortress provided close-air support to coalition forces in contact with enemy troops in the vicinity of Orgun-E. Two Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan. Also, Royal Air Force fighter aircraft performed in a non-traditional ISR role with their electro-optical and infrared sensors. Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq, and the Horn of Africa. About 135 airlift sorties were flown, more than 140 tons of cargo were delivered, and more than 2,100 passengers were transported.Coalition C-130 crews from Australia, Canada, Japan and the Republic of Korea flew in support of either OIF or OEF. On Nov. 28, Air Force and Royal Air Force tankers flew 35 sorties and off-loaded nearly 2.4 million pounds of fuel.
