New lieutenant colonels to attend senior developmental education

The P0505A Lieutenant Colonel Central Selection Board selected officers for promotion and identified senior developmental education "selects."

The board met at the Air Force Personnel Center here.

Selects join a resource pool of officers who will be considered for future attendance at in-residence senior developmental education. A complete list of selects is available at: www.afpc.randolph.af.mil/fdso/DPAFE.htm.

SDE enhances the professional military competence of Air Force officers through a program of education designed to broaden perspectives, increase knowledge and prepare officers to assume higher levels of command and staff duties and responsibilities.

The primary focus is to provide officers a universal leading foundation based upon air and space competencies in the following areas: Character, leadership, operations, organization, strategy, technology and perspective.

The promotion board chooses the best-qualified officers for in-residence SDE level schools. Those promoted with the highest scores from the promotion order of merit list become selects for school attendance. The percentage of selected fluctuates slightly each year, depending on year group sizes and class quotas.

School selection takes four steps: Initial choice as a select by a promotion board, nomination by the senior rater, review and validation by the individual's developmental team and designation for school attendance by the Air Force Developmental Education Selection/Designation Board.

Selects have a 100-percent opportunity to attend, barring any unfavorable information or action. The SDE eligibility window for this group of officers starts in 2007. However, selects are normally designated for SDE attendance late in their eligibility window to give them the opportunity to command before going to school.

Officers commissioned in 1990 will be eligible to meet the 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010 developmental education designation boards. Each spring, the personnel center will publicly release a message containing specific suspense actions and timelines for eligible officers wishing to be considered for school selection for the following academic year.
