SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFPN) -- U.S. Central Command Air Forces officials released today’s airpower summary.
Coalition aircraft flew 58 close air support and armed reconnaissance sorties Nov. 14 for Operation Iraqi Freedom. They included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.
Coalition aircraft also supported Iraqi and Coalition ground forces operations to create a secure environment for ongoing Transitional National Assembly meetings.
Air Force F-15 Eagles, MQ-1 Predators unmanned aerial vehicles and Royal Air Force Tornado GR4 aircraft flew air strikes against anti-Iraqi forces in the vicinity of Karabilah. The F-15s dropped precision-guided bombs and the Predators fired Hellfire missiles successfully against insurgent positions.
Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcons flew air strikes against anti-Iraqi forces near Balad. The F-16s successfully dropped a precision-guided bomb on a building used by insurgents.
F-16s and a Predator also flew air strikes against anti-Iraqi forces in the vicinity of Karabilah. The Predator successfully fired a Hellfire missile against insurgent positions.
Navy F/A-18 Hornets provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces in the vicinity of Ramadi.
In addition, 10 Air Force and Navy intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq. Also, RAF fighters flew in a non-traditional ISR role with their electro-optical and infrared sensors.
In Afghanistan, coalition aircraft flew 21 close-air support and armed reconnaissance sorties in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. These missions included support to coalition and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and the conduct of presence route patrols.
Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt IIs successfully strafed anti-coalition forces positions near Asadabad.
In addition, four Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan.
Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew about 150 airlift sorties, delivered more than 250 tons of cargo and transported approximately 2,700 passengers.
Coalition C-130 crews from Australia, Canada and Japan flew in support of either OIF or OEF.
On Nov. 13, Air Force and RAF tankers flew 38 sorties and off-loaded nearly 2.6 million pounds of fuel.
