CENTAF releases airpower summary

U.S. Central Command Air Forces officials released today's airpower summary report.

Coalition aircraft flew 57 close air support and armed reconnaissance sorties Nov. 13 for Operation Iraqi Freedom. They included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.
Coalition aircraft also supported Iraqi and coalition ground forces operations to create a secure environment for ongoing Transitional National Assembly meetings.

An Air Force MQ-1 Predator unmanned aerial vehicle flew an air strike against an improvised explosive device location in the vicinity of Karabilah, successfully firing Hellfire missiles. Another Predator provided close air support to coalition troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces in the vicinity of Habbaniyah.

In addition, 14 Air Force and Navy intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft flew missions to support operations in Iraq. Also, Air Force and Royal Air Force fighter aircraft flew in a non-traditional ISR role with their electro-optical and infrared sensors.

In Afghanistan, coalition aircraft flew 24 close-air support and armed reconnaissance sorties in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Missions supported coalition and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and the conduct of presence route patrols.

Two Air Force B-52s Stratofortress aircraft flew air strikes in the vicinity of Asadabad. The bombers successfully dropped precision-guided bombs against anti-coalition militia positions and an observation post.

Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt IIs and a Predator provided close-air support to coalition forces in contact with insurgents in the vicinity of Tarin Kowt.

In addition, five Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan. Also, RAF fighter aircraft flew in a non-traditional ISR role.

Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq, and the Horn of Africa. They flew more than 145 airlift sorties, delivered about 250 tons of cargo and transported 1,900 passengers.

Coalition C-130 crews from Australia, Canada and Japan flew in support of either OIF or OEF.

On Nov. 12, Air Force and RAF tankers flew 34 sorties and off-loaded more than 2.3 million pounds of fuel.
